Old-fashioned Cherry Pie  

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup sifted flour
1/4 teasp. salt
1/2 cup juice from canned cherries
3 cups, drained, canned pitted pie cherries
1T butter or margarine
4 drops almond extract

Pastry for 9-inch lattice-top pie
PS: you have Gram's permission to use the
Pillsbury ready-to-cook pastry usually found in the grocery store dairy case.

Combine sugar, flour & salt in a small saucepan, stir in juice. Cook and stir over medium heat till thick, then cook 1 minute more. Add cherries, butter, extract and 2 drops red food coloring. Cool slightly, and then pour into pastry shell. Top with lattice. (To make lattice, cut the top crust into 8 strips. Lay 4 across top of pie. Weave remaining 4 strips crosswise over top.) Bake at450 degrees for 10 minutes, then lower to 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes more.
